The ASF_ReadObject_file_properties function in modules/demux/asf/libasf.c in the ASF Demuxer in VideoLAN VLC Media Player before 2.1.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and crash) via a zero minimum and maximum data packet size in an ASF file.

The weakness was presented 02/05/2014 as EDB-ID 31429 as confirmed exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared for download at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-1684 since 01/28/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Saif in Python and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
