A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel 2.6.10/2.6.11 Rc1 Bk6 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function reiserfs_copy_from_user_to_file_region of the file file.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Linux kernel 2.6.10 and 2.6.11rc1-bk6 uses different size types for offset arguments to the proc_file_read and locks_read_proc functions, which leads to a heap-based buffer overflow when a signed comparison causes negative integers to be used in a positive context.
The bug was discovered 02/15/2005. The weakness was presented 02/15/2005 by Georgi Guninski (Website). The advisory is shared for download at guninski.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-0529 since 02/24/2005. The attack needs to be done within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
