A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Samba up to 4.7.8/4.8.3 (File Transfer Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Active Directory Domain Controller. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. A null pointer dereference flaw was found in the way samba checked database outputs from the LDB database layer. An authenticated attacker could use this flaw to crash a samba server in an Active Directory Domain Controller configuration. Samba versions before 4.7.9 and 4.8.4 are vulnerable.
The bug was discovered 08/14/2018. The weakness was published 08/22/2018 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-10918 since 05/09/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
