A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in ASUSTOR Data Master up to 3.1.5. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file wallpaper.cgi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. ASUSTOR Data Master 3.1.5 and below allows authenticated remote non-administrative users to delete any file on the file system due to a path traversal vulnerability in wallpaper.cgi.
The bug was discovered 06/24/2018. The weakness was published 08/27/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at tenable.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-15695 since 08/22/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication.
