A vulnerability has been found in glusterfs Server (the affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file server-rpc-fopc.c. It was found that glusterfs server is vulnerable to multiple stack based buffer overflows due to functions in server-rpc-fopc.c allocating fixed size buffers using 'alloca(3)'. An authenticated attacker could exploit this by mounting a gluster volume and sending a string longer that the fixed buffer size to cause crash or potential code execution.
The bug was discovered 02/03/2018. The weakness was shared 09/04/2018 by Michael Hanselmann as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-10907 since 05/09/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
