The web management console of Opsview Monitor 5.4.x before 5.4.2 provides functionality accessible by an authenticated administrator to test notifications that are triggered under certain configurable events. The value parameter is not properly sanitized, leading to arbitrary command injection with the privileges of the nagios user account.

The bug was discovered 09/04/2018. The weakness was presented 09/05/2018 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-16146 since 08/29/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
