This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component Protection Mechanism. The manipulation with the input value file:./../ leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Smarty before 3.1.33-dev-4 allows attackers to bypass the trusted_dir protection mechanism via a file:./../ substring in an include statement.
The bug was discovered 09/05/2018. The weakness was shared 09/11/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-16831 since 09/11/2018.
