A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Dell EMC RSA BSAFE Micro Edition Suite and RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition (version now known). This issue affects some unknown processing of the component ASN.1 Data Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
RSA BSAFE Micro Edition Suite, versions prior to 4.0.11 (in 4.0.x) and prior to 4.1.6 (in 4.1.x), and RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition, version prior to 4.0.5.3 (in 4.0.x) contain a Buffer Over-Read vulnerability when parsing ASN.1 data. A remote attacker could use maliciously constructed ASN.1 data that would result in such issue.
The bug was discovered 08/28/2018. The weakness was disclosed 09/14/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11058 since 05/14/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
