A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 1.0 (Web Browser). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Plugin Temporary Folder Handler. Firefox before 1.0.1 and Mozilla Suite before 1.7.6 use a predictable filename for the plugin temporary directory, which allows local users to delete arbitrary files of other users via a symlink attack on the plugtmp directory.
The weakness was published 03/01/2005 by Tavis Ormandy (@taviso) with Google Security Team as MFSA2005-28 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-0578 since 02/27/2005. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
