A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/7/8 (Web Browser). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-0303.

The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was shared 03/11/2014 by Bo Qu with Palo Alto Networks as MS14-012 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-0302 since 12/03/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4737 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72930 (MS14-012: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2925418)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100180 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS14-012)).

Applying the patch MS14-012 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13684.
