Backup in Apple iOS before 7.1 does not properly restrict symlinks, which allows remote attackers to overwrite files during a restore operation via crafted backup data.
The weakness was presented 03/11/2014 by Karol Wiesek as HT6162 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5133 since 08/15/2013. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
