A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in libssh up to 0.6.2. This affects the function RAND_bytes of the component OpenSSL PRNG PID Handler. The RAND_bytes function in libssh before 0.6.3, when forking is enabled, does not properly reset the state of the OpenSSL pseudo-random number generator (PRNG), which causes the state to be shared between children processes and allows local users to obtain sensitive information by leveraging a pid collision.
The weakness was shared 03/05/2014 by Aris Adamantiadis as libssh 0.6.3 (Security release) as confirmed release notes (Website). The advisory is shared at libssh.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-0017 since 12/03/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
