CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Samba (File Transfer Software). This affects the function owner_set of the file smbcacls.c of the component smbcacls. The manipulation of the argument --chown/--chgrp with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The owner_set function in smbcacls.c in smbcacls in Samba 4.0.x before 4.0.16 and 4.1.x before 4.1.6 removes an ACL during use of a --chown or --chgrp option, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions in opportunistic circumstances by leveraging an unintended administrative change.

The weakness was published 03/17/2014 by Noel Power with SuSE as Bug 10327 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.samba.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-6442 since 11/04/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue. The advisory points out:

(…) it will remove the existing ACL on the object being modified, leaving the file or directory unprotected.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73046 (Fedora 20 : samba-4.1.6-1.fc20 (2014-3796)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121926 (Fedora Security Update for samba (FEDORA-2014-3796)).

Upgrading to version 4.0.16 or 4.1.6 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
