A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox 27.0 (Web Browser). It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown functionality of the component WebRTC Session Handler. Mozilla Firefox before 28.0 and SeaMonkey before 2.25 allow remote attackers to spoof the domain name in the WebRTC (1) camera or (2) microphone permission prompt by triggering navigation at a certain time during generation of this prompt.
The weakness was released 03/18/2014 by Ehsan Akhgari with OUSPG as MFSA2014-19 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-1499 since 01/16/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73111 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (610de647-af8d-11e3-a25b-b4b52fce4ce8)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166877 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Mozilla Products (openSUSE-SU-2014:0419-1)).
Upgrading to version 28 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
