A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox 27.0 (Web Browser). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function onbeforeunload of the component Javascript Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Mozilla Firefox before 28.0 and SeaMonkey before 2.25 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (resource consumption and application hang) via onbeforeunload events that trigger background JavaScript execution.
The weakness was disclosed 03/18/2014 by Tim Philipp Schäfers and Sebastian Neef with OUSPG as MFSA2014-20 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-1500 since 01/16/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499. The advisory points out:

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73111 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (610de647-af8d-11e3-a25b-b4b52fce4ce8)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166883 (OpenSuSE Security Update for MozillaFirefox (openSUSE-SU-2014:0448-1)).
Upgrading to version 28 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
