Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Dashboard Backend service (stats/dashboard.jsp) in SonicWall Network Security Appliance (NSA) 2400 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the sn parameter.

The weakness was presented 03/07/2014 by Benjamin Kunz Mejri with Vulnerability Laboratory Research Team as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vulnerability-lab.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-2589 since 03/23/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 144 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:dashboard.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
