A vulnerability was found in ASUSTOR ADM 3.1.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the file upload.cgi. The manipulation of the argument path as part of a POST Parameter leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Directory Traversal in upload.cgi in ASUSTOR ADM version 3.1.1 allows attackers to upload files to arbitrary locations by modifying the "path" URL parameter. NOTE: the "filename" POST parameter is covered by CVE-2018-11345.
The bug was discovered 10/25/2018. The weakness was published 12/04/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at blog.securityevaluators.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-12309 since 06/13/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
