A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function get_t61_string of the file epan/charsets.c of the component RTSE Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. In Wireshark 2.6.0 to 2.6.5 and 2.4.0 to 2.4.11, the RTSE dissector and other ASN.1 dissectors could crash. This was addressed in epan/charsets.c by adding a get_t61_string length check.
The bug was discovered 12/20/2018. The weakness was released 01/08/2019 (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-5718 since 01/08/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
