A vulnerability has been found in PolicyKit 0.115 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function fork of the file polkitbackend/polkitbackendinteractiveauthority.c of the component Protection Mechanism. In PolicyKit (aka polkit) 0.115, the "start time" protection mechanism can be bypassed because fork() is not atomic, and therefore authorization decisions are improperly cached. This is related to lack of uid checking in polkitbackend/polkitbackendinteractiveauthority.c.
The bug was discovered 01/09/2019. The weakness was disclosed 01/11/2019 by Jann Horn with Google (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-6133 since 01/11/2019. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
