The GetEnhMetaFilePaletteEntries API in GDI32.DLL in Windows 2000 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted Enhanced Metafile (EMF) file that causes invalid (1) end, (2) emreof, or (3) palent offsets to be used, aka "Enhanced Metafile Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was released 03/18/2005 by Hongzhen Zhou (Felix) as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-0803 since 03/20/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1856 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
