Unspecified vulnerability in the Graphics Rendering Engine (GDI32.DLL) in Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP1 and SP2, and Server 2003 SP1, related to "An unchecked buffer" and possibly buffer overflows, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Windows Metafile (WMF) format image, aka "Windows Metafile Vulnerability."

The bug was discovered 03/29/2005. The weakness was published 11/08/2005 by Peter Ferrie (DiGiT) with eEye Digital Security as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-2124 since 07/02/2005. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
