Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Heap-based buffer overflow in Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code and bypass a sandbox protection mechanism via unspecified vectors, as demonstrated by Zeguang Zhao and Liang Chen during a Pwn2Own competition at CanSecWest 2014.

The weakness was presented 03/14/2014 by Zeguang Zhao and Liang Chen (team509) with Keen Team as Pwn2Own results for Thursday (Day Two) as not defined blog post (pwn2own) via Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). The advisory is shared for download at pwn2own.com. The blog post contains:

The second and final day of Pwn2Own 2014 saw successful attempts by seven entrants against five products, with $450,000 paid to researchers. This brings the two-day payout total to $850,000, not including charitable donations or the value of the laptops, ZDI points, and other prizes given to winning researchers.
This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-0510 since 12/20/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $25k-$100k (estimation calculated on 06/17/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74008 (Google Chrome < 34.0.1847.137 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121866 (Adobe Flash Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB14-09)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13748.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (92683), Tenable (74008), SecurityFocus (BID 66241†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-43623†). zerodayinitiative.com is providing further details.
