Details
A vulnerability was found in Poppler 0.73.0 (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function XRef::getEntry of the file XRef.cc. The manipulation as part of a PDF Document leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In Poppler 0.73.0, a heap-based buffer over-read (due to an integer signedness error in the XRef::getEntry function in XRef.cc) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted PDF document, as demonstrated by pdftocairo.
The bug was discovered 02/02/2019. The weakness was presented 02/03/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.chromium.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-7310 since 02/02/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
