A vulnerability was found in Google Android (Smartphone Operating System) (affected version not known). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component EXT4 File System. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Linux kernel is vulnerable to a stack-out-of-bounds write in the ext4 filesystem code when mounting and writing to a crafted ext4 image in ext4_update_inline_data(). An attacker could use this to cause a system crash and a denial of service.
The bug was discovered 06/16/2018. The weakness was released 01/07/2019 as Android Security Bulletin - January 2019 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at source.android.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-10880 since 05/09/2018. Local access is required to approach this attack. A single authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
