A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 1.10.6 (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function srtp_add_address of the file epan/dissectors/packet-rtp.c of the component RTP Dissector. The srtp_add_address function in epan/dissectors/packet-rtp.c in the RTP dissector in Wireshark 1.10.x before 1.10.7 does not properly update SRTP conversation data, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted packet.
The weakness was presented 04/22/2014 as wnpa-sec-2014-06 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-2907 since 04/18/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73864 (Wireshark 1.10.x < 1.10.7 DoS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.
