A vulnerability was found in Supportutils up to 3.1-5.7.0. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Log File Handler. If the attacker manages to create files in the directory used to collect log files in supportutils before version 3.1-5.7.1 (e.g. with CVE-2018-19638) he can kill arbitrary processes on the local machine.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2019. The weakness was released 03/05/2019 as Bug 1118463 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.suse.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-19640 since 11/28/2018. Local access is required to approach this attack. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
