The bug was discovered 02/12/2019. The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2019 by Security Team (rgod) with Zero Day Initiative as confirmed security update guide (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-0621 since 11/26/2018. Attacking locally is a requirement. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
An information disclosure vulnerability exists when the Windows kernel improperly handles objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could obtain information to further compromise the user’s system.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91504 (Microsoft Windows Security Update February 2019).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
