A vulnerability was found in QEMU up to 3.1.0 (Virtualization Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file hw/ppc/spapr.c of the component Hypervisor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a data processing vulnerability. hw/ppc/spapr.c in QEMU through 3.1.0 allows Information Exposure because the hypervisor shares the /proc/device-tree/system-id and /proc/device-tree/model system attributes with a guest.
The bug was discovered 02/21/2019. The weakness was released 03/21/2019 by Michael Hanselmann (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.opensuse.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-8934 since 02/19/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 28 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
