In QEMU 3.1.0, load_device_tree in device_tree.c calls the deprecated load_image function, which has a buffer overflow risk.
The bug was discovered 03/27/2019. The weakness was disclosed 05/31/2019 by Michael Hanselmann (Website). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-20815 since 03/26/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
