An issue existed in the pausing of FaceTime video. The issue was resolved with improved logic. This issue is fixed in iOS 12.2, macOS Mojave 10.14.4, watchOS 5.2. A user?s video may not be paused in a FaceTime call if they exit the FaceTime app while the call is ringing.
The bug was discovered 03/25/2019. The weakness was presented 03/25/2019 by Jakub Wilk as HT209599 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-8550 since 02/18/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/20/2020). The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371712 (Apple macOS Mojave 10.14.4, Security Update 2019-002 High Sierra, Security Update 2019-002 Sierra Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2019-3-25-2)).
Upgrading to version 12.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
