RealNetworks RealPlayer up to 16.0.3.51 3GP File code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in RealNetworks RealPlayer 16.0.0/16.0.0.282/16.0.1.18/16.0.2.32/16.0.3.51 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component 3GP File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The GetGUID function in codecs/dmp4.dll in RealNetworks RealPlayer 16.0.3.51 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (write access violation and application crash) via a malformed .3gp file.

The weakness was published 05/16/2014 by Aryan Bayaninejad as File 126637 as confirmed exploit (Packetstorm). The advisory is available at packetstormsecurity.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-3444 since 05/09/2014. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed by Aryan Bayaninejad in Python and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121687 (RealNetworks RealPlayer Multiple Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities).
