Details
A vulnerability was found in VMware ESXi, Fusion and Workstation (Virtualization Software) (affected version not known). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Virtual USB 1.1 UHCI. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
VMware ESXi (6.7 before ESXi670-201903001, 6.5 before ESXi650-201903001, 6.0 before ESXi600-201903001), Workstation (15.x before 15.0.4, 14.x before 14.1.7), Fusion (11.x before 11.0.3, 10.x before 10.1.6) contain a Time-of-check Time-of-use (TOCTOU) vulnerability in the virtual USB 1.1 UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface). Exploitation of this issue requires an attacker to have access to a virtual machine with a virtual USB controller present. This issue may allow a guest to execute code on the host.
The bug was discovered 03/28/2019. The weakness was shared 04/01/2019 by Richard Zhu with Fluoroacetate (Website). The advisory is available at vmware.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-5519 since 01/07/2019. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
