Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in TYPO3 6.2/6.2.0/6.2.1/6.2.2 (Content Management System). This affects an unknown code block of the component Extbase Framework. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The query caching functionality in the Extbase Framework component in TYPO3 6.2.0 before 6.2.3 does not properly validate group permissions, which allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary queries via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 05/22/2014 by Jan Kiesewetter as TYPO3-CORE-SA-2014-001 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at typo3.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-3946 since 06/03/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
Failing to respect user groups of logged in users when caching queries, Extbase is susceptible to information disclosure. The query caching (introduced in Extbase 6.2) used to cache queries that query results for a specific user group were presented to a different group.
Upgrading to version 6.2.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
