The Meeting Server in IBM Sametime 8.x through 8.5.2.1 and 9.x through 9.0.0.1 does not check whether a session cookie is current, which allows remote attackers to conduct user-search actions by leveraging possession of a (1) expired or (2) invalidated cookie.
The weakness was presented 05/21/2014 as swg21671201 / 1671201 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-0906 since 01/06/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. The advisory points out:
Session cookies remained valid after expiration or invalidation and could be used for certain queries as user search.
Applying the patch #1673224 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at www-01.ibm.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
