A vulnerability was found in cPanel 11.40.1.13/11.42.1.15/11.43.0.11 (Hosting Control Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component cgiemail 1.6. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. cgiemail allows remote attackers to use cgiemail as a spam proxy via CRLF injection of encoded newline (%0a) characters in parameters such as "required-subject," which can be used to modify the CC, BCC, and other header fields in the generated email message.
The weakness was presented 05/26/2014 with cPanel as TSR-2014-2004 / Case 78301 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at cpanel.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1575 since 02/10/2004. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. cPanel & WHM includes a copy of Bruce Lewis’ cgiemail version 1.6. This version of cgiemail was vulnerable to CVE-2002-1575, allowing remote unauthenticated attackers to send email using the cgiemail script to destination addresses of the attackers’ choosing.

Upgrading to version 11.40.1.14, 11.42.1.16 or 11.43.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
