A vulnerability has been found in Sangfor Sundray WLAN Controller up to 3.7.4.2 (Wireless LAN Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file nginx_webconsole.php of the component Cookie Header Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-77. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
WAC on the Sangfor Sundray WLAN Controller version 3.7.4.2 and earlier has a Remote Code Execution issue allowing remote attackers to achieve full access to the system, because shell metacharacters in the nginx_webconsole.php Cookie header can be used to read an etc/config/wac/wns_cfg_admin_detail.xml file containing the admin password. (The password for root is the WebUI admin password concatenated with a static string.)
The bug was discovered 02/25/2019. The weakness was disclosed 04/18/2019. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-9161 since 02/25/2019. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 52 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:nginx_webconsole.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
