A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7/8/9/10/11 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block. Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 through 11 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 07/27/2005. The weakness was presented 06/10/2014 by Bo Qu with Palo Alto Networks as MS14-035 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1791 since 01/29/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3240 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74427 (MS14-035: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2969262)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100202 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS14-035)).
Applying the patch MS14-035 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13920.
