A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows up to Vista (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122122 (Microsoft Graphics Component Remote Code Execution (MS14-036)).
Applying the patch MS14-036 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. It is possible to mitigate the problem by applying the configuration setting Disable WebClient service.Proper firewalling of tcp/139 (epmap), tcp/445 (microsoft-ds) is able to address this issue. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
