The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1533 since 01/16/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. Mozilla developers and community identified identified and fixed several memory safety bugs in the browser engine used in Firefox and other Mozilla-based products. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption under certain circumstances, and we presume that with enough effort at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74436 (Firefox ESR 24.x < 24.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Mac OS X)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122124 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2014:0741)).

Upgrading to version 30.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
