Details
A vulnerability was found in Exiv2 up to 0.27.1 (Image Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function PngImage::readMetadata of the component PNG Handler. The manipulation as part of a Image File leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An integer overflow in Exiv2 through 0.27.1 allows an attacker to cause a denial of service (SIGSEGV) via a crafted PNG image file, because PngImage::readMetadata mishandles a chunkLength - iccOffset subtraction.
The weakness was shared 06/30/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2019-13109 since 06/30/2019.
