A vulnerability was found in Veritas Resiliency Platform up to 3.4 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Application Bundle Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. An issue was discovered in Veritas Resiliency Platform (VRP) before 3.4 HF1. When uploading an application bundle, a directory traversal vulnerability allows a VRP user with sufficient privileges to overwrite any file in the VRP virtual machine. A malicious VRP user could use this to replace existing files to take control of the VRP virtual machine.

The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
