Details
A vulnerability was found in MatrixSSL up to 4.2.1. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function parseSSLHandshake of the file sslDecode.c of the component DTLS Server. The manipulation as part of a Fragment Length leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In MatrixSSL 3.8.3 Open through 4.2.1 Open, the DTLS server mishandles incoming network messages leading to a heap-based buffer overflow of up to 256 bytes and possible Remote Code Execution in parseSSLHandshake in sslDecode.c. During processing of a crafted packet, the server mishandles the fragment length value provided in the DTLS message.
The weakness was disclosed 07/29/2019. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2019-14431 since 07/29/2019. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
