Summary
A vulnerability described as critical has been identified in TP-LINK Archer C3200 V1 and Archer C2 V1. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component ARP Handler. Such manipulation as part of Broadcast leads to input validation. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2019-13268. The attack requires being on the local network. There is not any exploit available. Restrictive firewalling should be applied.
Details
A vulnerability was found in TP-LINK Archer C3200 V1 and Archer C2 V1 (unknown version) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component ARP Handler. The manipulation as part of a Broadcast leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
TP-Link Archer C3200 V1 and Archer C2 V1 devices have Insufficient Compartmentalization between a host network and a guest network that are established by the same device. They forward ARP requests, which are sent as broadcast packets, between the host and the guest networks. To use this leakage as a direct covert channel, the sender can trivially issue an ARP request to an arbitrary computer on the network. (In general, some routers restrict ARP forwarding only to requests destined for the network's subnet mask, but these routers did not restrict this traffic in any way. Depending on this factor, one must use either the lower 8 bits of the IP address, or the entire 32 bits, as the data payload.)
The weakness was released 08/27/2019. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-13268 since 07/04/2019. Access to the local network is required for this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Addressing this vulnerability is possible by firewalling .
