Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Edimax BR-6208AC V1 (version now known). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component DHCP Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Edimax BR-6208AC V1 devices have Insufficient Compartmentalization between a host network and a guest network that are established by the same device. A DHCP Request is sent to the router with a certain Transaction ID field. Following the DHCP protocol, the router responds with an ACK or NAK message. Studying the NAK case revealed that the router erroneously sends the NAK to both Host and Guest networks with the same Transaction ID as found in the DHCP Request. This allows encoding of data to be sent cross-router into the 32-bit Transaction ID field.

The weakness was disclosed 08/27/2019. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2019-13269 since 07/04/2019. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is possible to mitigate the weakness by firewalling .
