Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in IBM AIX 4.1.5 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown part of the component inetd. The manipulation as part of a Port Connection leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
inetd in AIX 4.1.5 dynamically assigns a port N when starting ttdbserver (ToolTalk server), but also inadvertently listens on port N-1 without passing control to ttdbserver, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a large number of connections to port N-1, which are not properly closed by inetd.
The weakness was shared 03/18/1998 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-1999-1075. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
