A vulnerability was found in SGI IRIX 6.3/6.4 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component mailcap. System Manager sysmgr GUI in SGI IRIX 6.4 and 6.3 allows remote attackers to execute commands by providing a trojan horse (1) runtask or (2) runexec descriptor file, which is used to execute a System Manager Task when the user's Mailcap entry supports the x-sgi-task or x-sgi-exec type.
The issue has been introduced in 09/01/1996. The weakness was disclosed 04/02/1998 by CERT and AUSCERT as 19980403-02-PX as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at patches.sgi.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-1999-1183. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
