A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component HTTP 404 Error Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the JRun Web Server in ColdFusion MX 7.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary script or HTML via the URL, which is not properly quoted in the resulting default 404 error page.
The bug was discovered 05/10/2005. The weakness was published 04/26/2005 by Dr_insane (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-1555 since 05/14/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
