Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.3.11 (Operating System). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function i40e_setup_macvlans of the file drivers/net/ethernet/intel/i40e/i40e_main.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
A memory leak in the i40e_setup_macvlans() function in drivers/net/ethernet/intel/i40e/i40e_main.c in the Linux kernel through 5.3.11 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by triggering i40e_setup_channel() failures, aka CID-27d461333459.
The weakness was published 11/18/2019. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-19043 since 11/18/2019. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
