PAM configuration file for rlogin in Red Hat Linux 6.1 and earlier includes a less restrictive rule before a more restrictive one, which allows users to access the host via rlogin even if rlogin has been explicitly disabled using the /etc/nologin file.
The issue has been introduced in 10/04/1999. The weakness was disclosed 10/07/1999 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-1999-1346. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
