A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Pacman up to 5.1. This issue affects the function download_with_xfercommand of the file conf.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. pacman before 5.2 is vulnerable to arbitrary command injection in conf.c in the download_with_xfercommand() function. This can be exploited when unsigned databases are used. To exploit the vulnerability, the user must enable a non-default XferCommand and retrieve an attacker-controlled crafted database and package.
The weakness was published 02/24/2020 (GitHub Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-18182 since 10/17/2019. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
